At present the Cathedral Choir comprises of approx. 20 singers of all ages. They sing at the 10.30 Mass on Sundays and also at Diocesan Feasts and celebrations at the Cathedral. The Director of the Cathedral Choir is Teresa Brown and choir rehearsals are held every Thursday evening during term time.
In addition to the weekly liturgies so far this year the choir have sung at the Ordination of Fr Brendan Seery, at the Jubilarians’ Mass and for a special service ‘Christ’s journey to the cross’ during the ‘24 hours for the Lord’. Members of the choir joined with singers and musicians from other parishes for the Diocesan pilgrimage to Walsingham, to lead the congregation in song at the Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter.
To sing in the Cathedral Choir is to be part of a music ministry, an act of service to God and to the Church, in which we sing and pray, each time we meet. New choir members, including pupils from secondary school age upwards, are welcome and there is no upper age limit. The choir sings a variety of music each week and so the ability to read music is an advantage, together with a musical ear for singing in harmony.
If you are interested in joining the choir in September, either come to 10.30am Sunday Mass and then talk to Teresa Brown afterwards, or fill out the form below for more information.
